Two of ICEH’s own based at LSHTM have raised an amazing £1800 for BCPB (British Council for Prevention of Blindness).
Priya Morjaria, an optometrist studying for a PhD in Public Health and Robin Percy, Programme Manager for VISION 2020 Workshops took part in the Ealing Half Marathon on September 27.
Priya has had a personal connection to eye health since growing up in Tanzania where her grandfather, who lived with her family, was blind due to a failed glaucoma operation. When she’s not running, she splits her time between the LSHTM working on her PhD and doing vital research funded by BCPB into helping children in Bangladesh and Nepal who have poor vision following cataract surgery.
Robin meanwhile takes the WHO Global Action to different territories and works with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) on their training programme, helping save the sight of thousands of children and adults. A major part of her work is to provide technical advice to help prevent ROP – a disease of the retina which threatens the sight of premature babies in Russia and Eastern Europe.
