ICEH is pleased to congratulate 2009 MSc Alumnus – Rajesh Babu Bhatchala for Receiving the Social Impact Award at the British Council’s Education UK Alumni Awards!
The awards honour outstanding success in entrepreneurship, professional achievement and social impact by alumni from India, mainland China and the USA who have graduated from UK higher education institutions within the last 10 years.
Rajesh has made it possible for people of all economic backgrounds to have access to high quality affordable eye care in India. Following his Masters in Community Eye Health at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, he founded Drishti Vision for Life in Karnataka.
He targeted prices towards the most deprived areas and has established a well-equipped district hospital in the rural Bangalore and Chickaballapur District. Thanks to 25 million rupees support from a social impact investment fund, a new centre in Channapatna district opened in January 2015. Drishti Vision for Life plans to open centres across a further six districts across Karnataka.
His UK education gave him invaluable project planning skills, which enabled him to lead a strong team and drive his vision forward.
