Origins

VISION 2020: The Right to Sight’ global initiative was launched in 1999 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), with the aim of eliminating avoidable blindness by the year 2020

The first LINKS

The VISION 2020 LINKS Programme was requested by IAPB and funded by 2 NGOs (CBM and SSI) and led by Marcia Zondervan

The programme grows

10 LINKS established and formalised in 7 African countries

Truly international

25 LINKS established in 15 African countries, plus 2 in Indonesia

The first Network

Diabetic Retinopathy Network (DR-NET) established
